HUMANE CHARITY SPOTLIGHTSupport the Multiple Sclerosis FoundationMultiple sclerosis (MS) is a disease of the central nervous system that causes debilitating symptoms including fatigue, lack of coordination, loss of vision, and paralysis. An estimated 400,000 people in the United States suffer from this chronic disease, and there is no known cure. The Florida-based Multiple Sclerosis Foundation is a nonprofit organization committed to improving the health and quality of life for those with MS through innovative programs that alleviate suffering and raise awareness nationwide. The Multiple Sclerosis Foundation provides comprehensive care for people with MS and people whose lives are affected by MS, offering homecare programs, assistive technology, support groups, and many more services at no cost to those in need. The Multiple Sclerosis Foundation is particularly in tune with the challenges of reaching underserved populations, and will expand its programs into more rural areas of the country in 2011, bringing well-known experts to treat and educate communities. In addition to providing much-needed programs and support for people who suffer from MS, the Multiple Sclerosis Foundation strives to raise awareness through widespread outreach campaigns. In 2003, the Multiple Sclerosis Foundation’s efforts led to the official declaration of March as the National Multiple Sclerosis Education and Awareness Month. This March, the Multiple Sclerosis Foundation is focusing on the theme “My Search: The MS Journey of Self Discovery,” hosting events and teleconferences with noted speakers and researchers across the country. The Multiple Sclerosis Foundation’s services and innovative campaigns have been invaluable in the treatment of people with MS and have educated the public about this important issue.
